Movie Night

  • Movie Night will be Wednesday, August 4 at Alison’s house.
  • If the weather is nice we will do it outside.
  • If the weather is bad, we will move her dining room table and set up chairs in the dining room.
  • Deborah has invited Pat Shanks from the Planning Board who may bring some other people from the Planning Board and also lead a discussion.
  • We will set up a sign-in list for people to leave us with their email addresses.
  • For $50 it is possible to become an official “No Impact Man” group.  We don’t have the money to do this, but will see if it is something we would want to look into after we have seen the film.
  • The “No Impact Man” website has a list of suggested questions for discussion purposes.
  • Kevin will bring a projector.
  • Steering committee members will provide popcorn, etc. and bring chairs.

Garden Tour

  • The Garden Tour will take place on Sunday, August 29 .
  • We currently have three gardens, including Lee’s on 4th between Forest and Grape.   We will end there, hopefully with local wine and beer.
  • Kay will put this event and movie night on the yahoo email.
  • Diane will contact Karen Raucher to see if she would be interested in having her garden on the tour.

 Lovovore Potluck and Beer Tasting

  • This event will take place on Saturday, October 30 at Cathy’s.
  • We need to have 20 people to make the beer tasting part of it work.

Yard Signs

  • Kevin volunteered the house at the SE corner of 9th and Hawthorn for one of the signs.  If they don’t want to keep it in between events, Laura will take it over to her house.
  • Tim and Diane will be responsible for the other sign by putting it either in their yard or in another prominent location on 4th Street.

Boulder Green Streets

  • Kevin was not at the meeting to talk sbout this.
  • We were a little confused about the idea of having neighborhood block parties in conjunction with it, wondering if they wouldn’t conflict with the events on Pearl from 15th to Folsom instead of help to focus on them.
  • That said, we would like to see more block parties in Newlands.

Miscellaneous

  • Kay would like to put together some kind of handout for the movie night that would be low key and mention any upcoming events including Alison’s forum.
  • Kay recently spoke with Catherine Chipman, a realtor in the space at Dellwood and Broadway where Mudlucious pottery studio used to be.  She is interested in being a part of Greenlands and has a bulletin board on the side of her building and would put our events on it.  She would also share her space, but Kay said it isn’t really much different than  being in Cathy’s house.
  •  Ruth McHeyser did an historic walking tour of Newlands a number of years ago and we think it would fun to do something like that again.
  • Vernita and June Howard used to write articles about the history of Newlands for the old newletter and Vernita may try to put some of those stories up on the website.
  • Alison would still like to host forum for the Clean Energy Act sometime after the Movie Night has happened.

Action Items

  • Kevin will bring a projector for movie night.  Steering committee members will provide popcorn, etc. and bring chairs.
  • Diane will contact Karen Raucher to see if she would be interested in having her garden on the tour.
  • Kay will put movie night and garden tour on the yahoo email.
  • Kevin, Laura, Tim and Diane will followup with their yard sign commitment.
